The Denver Dance Festival began in 2008 as an idea by local choreographers and producers, Ken Jimenez and Sarah Schacterle. Their goals with the project were to display the talent of Colorado choreographers and dance companies, and thus give them an avenue to unite with other artists and expose the greater community to the abundance of talent in the area.
Established in 2009, the Denver Dance Festival first debuted and was an instant success. The stage was set with the first collaborative, non-competitive dance show in Colorado. The feeling was one of partnership and support and it was clear that the dance community in the area was alive and thriving!
In 2010, with the second festival underway, sponsorships allowed for the addition of non-local and accomplished dance companies to join in the festivities. Now the event not only serves to display the diverse and collective styles of local choreographers, but to expose and inspire the Denver community with the greater experience of dance talent that exists throughout the country.
Mission:
To display the talent of Colorado choreographers and dance companies and give them an avenue to unite with other artists and expose the greater community to the abundance of talent in the area.
Vision:
To gain recognition and popularity in dance within Colorado and to be known throughout the country as an up and coming prestigious dance festival offering a world-class dance experience. To have the financial resources to include the most accomplished local and national dance talent in the festival thereby exposing the Colorado community to an even greater dimension of dance entertainment.
